10 Supporting Actors Who Totally Stole The Movie
2. Scarlett Johansson - Jojo Rabbit
It wasn't easy to upstage a guy dressed up as Hitler, but ScarJo found a way.
Taika Waititi plays an accentuated version of the Nazi leader in his excellent 2018 output Jojo Rabbit. The imaginary friend of the lead character, Waititi's interpretation of the Fuhrer is juvenile, clownish, and massively insecure.
As well as, you know, all the other stuff that Hitler was.
His performance might be the central hook of the movie, but the best parts of it all contain Johansson as young Jojo's mother Rosie. It is she who brings the young Jewish girl Elsa into Jojo's life and who ultimately pays the price for her transgressions against the Third Reich.
Seriously, that scene with the shoes is utterly chilling.
As well as the seriousness of trying to keep her son safe whilst doing what she believes is right, Johansson also provides some levity to the piece. She is a fantastically playful mother, also taking time to entertain and indulge her son whilst attempting to educate him in how to be a good person.
It's a hard pick between her and Easy A's parents, but we'll be spared a significant heartache if we pick the latter.
