10 Supposedly Formidable Film & TV Characters Who Sucked In A Fight

8. The Kurgan (Highlander)

Kurgan Highlander This hurts me the most. I LOVED highlander when I was a kid, and still do, and to be fair this criticism can be applied to so many villains in highlander, but he simply isn't a good fighter. This all comes down to the fact that only Connor Macleod actually knows how to fight, and has a badass katana. Kurgan is supposed to be a feared and awesome warrior and he has the same slow broadsword he used 400 years ago and let's look at the guys he beats: -Ramirez. Now Sean Connery is awesome in this role as the Egyptian mentor who dresses like a pimp and wields a katana but he looked terrible in his one fight scene with Kurgan. He failed to capitalise when he had cut Kurgan's throat and decided it'd be wise to hang back even though his opponent is immortal and can heal. In summary, Kurgan beat this guy after taking a major hit early on and one near the end, so it really wasn't one-sided and if anything, he looked lucky. -Kastagir. Did anyone think this guy would have a chance of winning? To be fair Kurgan beat this guy and his generic machete quite easily but he's the definition of a red-shirt. And that's it. There's talk of lost footage where the Kurgan took out two other immortals in ways that sound so much more badass than what we saw in the film but I'm not considering them canon. And in case you were wondering how this could get any geekier...Kurgan appears in the literature (considered canon) and he is just a big puss. Loses to Ramirez the first time but escapes, runs into Connor Macleod during the Napoleonic War and escapes after being fatally wounded, is gravely wounded in a confrontation with Connor during the Cold War and he also took on the four horsemen at some point and got whooped. And now we get to the final fight with Connor Macleod. This was an entertaining fight and he has the edge for a lot of it but really just because he has the love interest hostage and for a while is the only guy with a sword (and even then he swings and misses a lot). As soon as Connor gets his katana back, it's all over. Kurgan had even longer than Macleod to learn how to fight (centuries) and he was just appalling. As a testament to how bad he is, the villains in the TV series ALL looked better than him and they weren't supposed to be major obstacles anyway.

Arthur Clarke hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
