10 Suspiciously Similar Movies Released In The Same Year

3. Die Hard In The White House - Olympus Has Fallen vs. White House Down (2013)

Olympus Has Fallen Just last week, the Antoine Fuqua-directed thriller Olympus Has Fallen released in the US, about a group of paramilitaries who siege the White House while one man (Gerard Butler) has to stop them from getting to the President of the United States (Aaron Eckhart). White House Down, directed by Roland Emmerich, is exactly the same premise, except the everyman is Channing Tatum, and the President is Jamie Foxx. What Came First: The production histories of these two films are eerily similar; both films had their scripts purchased by the studios in March of 2012, and production began in July for each. A race began between Sony and Millennium Films to see who could finish production first, and Olympus won out, getting released just this month, whereas White House Down, originally slated for June, was pushed back to September, likely to avoid over-saturating audiences. What Was Better: This one remains up in the air as nobody has seen White House Down yet. Olympus opened to surprisingly mixed-to-positive reviews and I could easily see White House Down doing the same. We will have to wait and see...
