10 Terrible 2014 Films That Tricked Us With Awesome Posters

4. Dumb And Dumber To

Why The Poster Works: Comedies don't tend to have the best posters, but Dumb And Dumber To's were surprisingly inventive. A couple which were particularly well-received spoofed Scarlett Johnasson's Lucy, and the first teaser poster featured a very cool callback to Harry and Lloyd's now iconic orange and white tuxedos. The one you see here works even better however, and big part of that is down to the return of the Mutt Cutts van, a vehicle instantly recognisable to fans of the first movie. Forgive the fact that Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels are horribly Photoshopped into the van, and this was a poster which promised great things to come. Why The Movie Sucked: Unfortunately, while the poster tried to play with nostalgia, the movie itself (which was in many ways a completely unnecessary sequel) failed to live up to the expectations it had built up with imagery such as this. Dumb And Dumber To certainly had its moments, but the once contemporary humour that made these characters so popular now felt outdated and just not that funny. Critics tore the comedy sequel to pieces for its lack of heart and the fact that watching Carrey and Daniels as Harry and Lloyd felt like two old men dressing up like their younger selves. Harsh, but it's hard to disagree after sitting through this.
