10 Terrible 2014 Horror Movies To Avoid This Halloween

6. Annabelle

The Pitch: A spin-off prequel to last year's horror smash hit The Conjuring, Annabelle revolves around the titular creepy doll briefly introduced at the start of that film. Why It Sucked: Because there's absolutely no reason for this film to exist. It would have made more sense to make Annabelle the antagonist of The Conjuring 2, but instead, she's wasted on this dull, almost entirely scare-free "horror" flick that, given its silly premise, takes itself far, far too seriously. Poor acting and a lame duck script do little for director John R. Leonetti's relatively stylish direction, and a solid performance from Alfre Woodard (who clearly deserves better) can only take the film so far. In short, this is about as lazy and cynical as Hollywood can get. Will There Be A Sequel?: Annabelle has made an insane, even infuriating $207 million worldwide to date against a $6.5 million budget, so Warner Bros. would be stupid not to have another sequel in development already. Hopefully it's a crossover flick with Chucky, as Chucky's creator Don Mancini has already expressed enthusiasm for. Sadly, the smart money says it'll be another generic, low-rent horror instead.
