10 Terrible Castings That Doomed Comic Book Movies
3. Chris O'Donnell As Robin - Batman Forever
The rest of these entries are all about the actor's performance being just flat out wrong for the character, sometimes combined with the writing or directing not being up to snuff. But with Chris O'Donnell as Robin in the final two original Batman movies, there's really just one reason why this casting choice doomed these two movies: Chris O'Donnell was just too old for this character.
Now there's nothing wrong with having an older robin, but when you look at the script for these movies, especially Forever, it's plain to see that this was just meant for a much younger actor than Chris O'Donnell, who was well into his 20s at the time. The way Robin behaves in this movie would be fine if it were a teenager, but with O'Donnell, one must wonder why this grown ass man needs to be adopted by the Wayne family after losing his parents.
Since this movie is so bad at hiding the fact that this supposedly teenage Dick Grayson is clearly old enough to drink, it just makes his moodiness and rebellious attitude come off as whiny more than anything else.
