10 Terrible Films By Game Of Thrones Directors
4. The Big White (2005)
Director: Mark Mylod
Back to Mark Mylod, as essential Throne director set to return for Season 7. The Brit is one of the few Game Of Thrones directors to have a run of past feature efforts on his CV, though here's another one that falls into the same category as his awful rom-com What's Your Number?.
A nigh-on unwatchable effort, The Big White follows travel agent Paul Barnell (Robin Williams) after he finds a body in a dumpster and decides to use it to his advantage. Heavily in debt and desperate to find a cure for his wife's Tourettes Syndrome, Paul recovers the frozen corpse and uses it to trigger his missing brother's life-insurance policy.
It didn't sound like a bad premise at the time, and the additions of Woody Harrelson and Tim Blake Nelson to the cast only spelled good things for this dark comedy, but in the end the film was worthy of its 30% Rotten Tomatoes rating. The trouble for Mylod was that he was trying so hard to channel Fargo that his film gets snowed under with indie sentiment and becomes more pretentious (and less funny) with every passing scene.
The film was so misguided that producers could not strike a deal for studio release and were forced to settle for the VOD dumping ground.
