10 Terrible Horror Movies With ONE Incredible Scene
6. Samantha Kills Elvira - Deadly Friend
After multiple hits like The Last House on the Left, The Hills Have Eyes, and the first Nightmare on Elm Street movie, Wes Craven tried to move away from horror with a sci-fi thriller called Deadly Friend.
What began as a story about a young girl named Samantha (Kristy Swanson) brought back to life with an experimental computer chip quickly got way darker than envisioned, as studio pressure forced Craven to make the movie more like his previous oeuvre. These unwanted changes completely messed with the film, resulting in poor scores and a dismal showing at the box office.
One of the best bits from this bloodier version of Deadly Friend is the scene where the reanimated Samantha murders a local woman named Elvira.
Played by Anne Ramsey, best known as Mama Fratelli from The Goonies, Elvira is a curmudgeonly old hag who destroys the original robot containing the chip. Now controlling Samatha, the chip breaks into Elvira's house and throws a basketball so hard at her head that it bursts like a watermelon.
Allegedly, the fake head was full of actual cow brains, in case you weren't disgusted enough.
