10 Terrible Mistakes That Almost Ruined The X-Men Movies For Everyone

2. Bob Hoskins As Wolverine

Bob Hoskins Wolverine Believe it or not, Chris Claremont - the renowned British-born American comic book writer and novelist who is known for his 16-year stint on Uncanny X-Men - has stated that he wanted the late Bob Hoskins to play Wolverine in the days before the current franchise was up and running. About the subject, Claremont said:
Over the course of the three (first X-Men) films he evolved on screen in much the same manner he evolved in the comic. The Wolverine quite naturally becomes the core essence of the group. It would have been interesting if we€™d done it 25 years ago and I€™d gotten my wish and Bob Hoskins had played him. Hoskins has that same degree of mad fury and he€™s short. Don€™t think of Super Mario Bros. think of The Long Good Friday. With Hugh Jackman, it just reverses the paradigm, he€™s six foot four and who cares?
Can you imagine? While it would have been a completely different beast to the current X-Men franchise, had Claremont got his way all those years ago, it would have potentially led to the current franchise not being made at all (or being made with a terrible reputation and a burden on its back) - and that's just one of many potentially awful casting decisions that - thankfully - didn't come in to fruition. Dougray Scott as Wolverine? Johnny Depp as Wolverine? Glenn Danzig as Wolverine? Kate Winslet as Rogue? We can't help that think Vinnie Jones as Juggernaut is stellar casting compared to some of those potential choices!
