10 Terrible Movies That Got ONE Thing Right
3. The Fast and the Furious Franchise - The Driving
It's a massive understatement to say that the Fast and the Furious franchise is simple, yet successful. The franchise has had almost twenty years of life at this point and at least two more movies are coming.
Despite the films being basically carbon copies, their sometimes questionable acting, and plotlines that moved from quasi-realistic street racing to world-saving espionage, the stunt driving in all the movies is top notch.
The producers sought-out real street cars and racers for the first few movies, letting them help guide the action and how the street racing culture was portrayed. As the scope of the films grew, so did the expertise required - producers started needing drivers and stunt people who could work with buses, trains, transport trucks, airplanes, and military vehicles.
As outrageous as the stunts are, almost all of them are practical effects done with real (admittedly customized) vehicles, buildings, and locations. Hundreds of cars were destroyed or damaged to make the set pieces as realistic as possible, which is quite a feat when scenes include taking on a tank and waging a pitched battle across a frozen ocean against a submarine.
The stunts are fantastic, the franchise is beloved, and the box office receipts prove it.
