10 Terrible Movies That Wasted Amazing Casts

3. Ocean’s Twelve

Ocean's Twelve

With 2001’s heist caper Ocean’s Eleven, director Steven Soderbergh did the almost impossible: remade a film that managed to outshine its original. No mean feat, especially considering the smattering of crappy remakes that preceded it (we’re looking at you Psycho and Get Carter).

But despite gathering the same ensemble cast that helped the remake become successful (George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Don Cheadle to mention just a few) for its not so imaginatively titled sequel Ocean’s Twelve and throwing in a few more established actors for good measure (Catherine Zeta Jones, Albert Finney and Vincent Cassel included), Soderbergh failed to repeat his success.

In trying to bigger and better than its forebear, Ocean’s Twelve basically uses a rehashed plotline thinly disguised by moving the action to Europe and adding in some oh-so-clever self-referential elements. The worst of those is the perplexingly pointless and unfunny meta-moment in which Julia Robert as Tess Ocean realises her likeness to and impersonates none other than herself (that’s Julia Roberts in case the meta is too much for you).

There’s a moment in Ocean’s Twelve where Brad Pitt’s character remarks ‘We’re forcing it.’ Pretty much hit the nail on the head there, Brad.
