10 Terrible Movies With Overlooked Positives

6. The Garage Scene - Death Sentence

Death Sentence Kevin BaconWhy It Sucked: James Wan's violent thriller blends together several earlier, superior vigilante films, lazily lifting from the likes of Death Wish and Taxi Driver. Though Kevin Bacon throws himself into the role - even shaving his head at the end - it's just too implausible, and fails to really probe the nature and morality of revenge. The Overlooked Positive: Though James Wan's career is at an all-time high right now - he's just come off two major hits with Insidious and The Conjuring, while Insidious: Chapter 2 awaits release - arguably the most impressive scene of his body of work comes in this film, where Kevin Bacon's character is chased through a parking garage by a violent gang eager for his blood. The single-take three-minute sequence passes between parking levels seamlessly, an extremely complex shot which required the camera to be carefully craned and passed between 7 different camera operators, the end result being a technically stunning scene that is easily the only truly memorable thing in the entire movie.
