10 Terrible Recent Movies With ONE Redeeming Scene

The scenes that saved movies from being irredeemably awful.

It's fair to say that the perfect movie doesn't exist, because filmmaking is such a chaotic collision of ideas and egos that compromises always have to be made somewhere.

And to the same token, even the worst movies typically have something praise-worthy to offer, whether their strong production values or a decent performance against the odds.

With that in mind, these 10 dud movies from the last year managed to strike gold in a single scene - a scene so entertaining that it elevated the rest of the film a little.

Despite each of these films largely falling flat with critics if not also audiences, they managed to at least do something worthwhile in a single sequence.

From an unexpected dose of gut-busting comedy to a deliriously entertaining action sequence, or even a performance that stole the whole damn movie, these films clearly needed way more scenes like this lot.

A year or two from now, if you remember anything from these films at all, it's likely to be these scene which, through their excellence, stick out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of the movie...

10. Cassie Can't Climb Walls - Madame Web

Red One Good Scene
Sony Pictures Releasing

Madame Web may be one of the worst superhero movies of all time, but it did at least get one genuine belly laugh out of audiences when, shortly after manifesting her superpowers for the first time, Cassie Webb (Dakota Johnson) starts to experiment with them.

After surmising that she might have the ability to climb walls - y'know, like a spider - Cassie finds the nearest wall and gives it a try.

The camera framing and epic music suggest we're about to see something extremely cool... only for Cassie to hilariously slide down the wall in defeat.

Beyond obviously winking at the iconic wall-climbing scene from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man, this was Madame Web's single honest-to-God laugh - or at least, the only successful one that was actually on purpose.

Seeing Dakota Johnson slowly sink to the floor like a sack of potatoes and look totally dejected by the embarrassing failed experiment is really the only part of the movie worth remembering.
