10 Terrible Remakes Of Awesome Movies That Almost Happened

8. Akira

There has been talk of a live-action remake of Akira since 2002, when Warner Bros. announced that they had acquired the rights to make it. Since that time, there have been a lot of rumours, false starts and scores of people leaving and joining the project. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, James Franco, Michael Fassbender and even Justin Timberlake were all rumoured to play the role of Shotaro Kaneda at one point. The potential casting of a white actor has offended fans of the original Manga and the production has shut down many, many times. But just this year it was announced that yet another new writer had been hired and that production is once again under way. Does anybody actually want to see a Hollywood-produced, live-action version of Akira? Even if they do, after all these years in development it will undoubtedly end up being nothing but a huge disappointment to fans.
