10 Terrifying Horror Films You’ve Probably Never Seen
1. Ghost Stories (2017)
Finally, the top ten ends with a gem that's probably the best-known horror on this list, at least to UK audiences. Yet despite enjoying a modest box office, Ghost Stories remains unfairly out of the public eye, despite being one of the finest British horror films this century. Based on an equally terrifying play, co-creator Andy Nyman plays a snarky, pessimistic professor who sets out to solve three unsolvable supernatural cases, which play out as three equally spine-chilling short films, before coming together in a jaw-dropping finale.
Interested? Well the film also features the expert and darkly comic performances from Martin Freeman, AKA Bilbo Baggins, and Alex Lawther of End of the F**king World fame. Both Freeman and Lawther excellently chew the scenery in their stories and are part of a wonderful ensemble cast that keep the scares (and laughs) coming a mile a minute.
The flick is a love letter to classic horror, and it shows as the film displays silly humour proudly alongside a chilling atmosphere and a dark, gut-wrenching twist that will left all in its wake gasping and clambering for countless rewatches. However, as with the play, the secrets of Ghost Stories must not be retold, so only those that are brave enough to watch shall truly experience such a masterful horror.
