10 Terrifying Horror Movie Phone Calls You'll Never Forget

The Mothman Prophecies is a movie that's often overlooked when it comes to classic horror offerings of the past 20 years.

From director Mark Pellington, the 2002 'based on true events' Richard Gere-starrer seemed to slip a little under the radar. Exploring the myth of the Mothman legend, the movie finds John Klein on a mission to find out whether or not this mysterious figure is indeed real.

With Klein cooped up in a hotel room while he digs deep on supposed supernatural shenanigans, he starts to get phone calls throughout the night. Not just your usual sort of prank calls or a notification to say that your pizza is ready down at the lobby, for these calls are instead chilling in how they reveal details only John or his deceased wife could possibly know.

The content of these calls is clearly shocking, yet it's the tone and eerie sounds of the conversation that really send chills down the spine and add to the memorable nature of The Mothman Prophecies.

Is The Mothman Prophecies an all-time classic horror movie? Likely not. Still, it's an oft-unheralded gem that stays with the viewer long after the film's 119-minute run time comes to a close - and key to that is the sinister phone calls that torment Richard Gere's Klein.
