Even today, plenty of people are still talking about this incredibly powerful and downright twisted horror title. Get Out was the debut movie of Jordan Peele, who would, of course, go on to make the previously discussed Us. The film is frightening thanks its standalone merits and the haunting connotations about the prevalent racial divide in our world.
Get Out revolves around Chris Washington (Black Panther star Daniel Kaluuya) and his girlfriend Rose Armitage (Allison Williams). They travel back to Rose's homestead to introduce Chris to the Armitage family. However, things are not as they seem, and soon the awkward racial tension becomes all too real, as the sinister truth behind the household is unveiled.
The film is a masterclass in metaphorical and symbolic storytelling, as there are loads of subtle hints placed throughout to hint at the meaning of the message. As a first time project for Jordan Peele, it couldn't have gone any better.
Kaluuya utterly nails the leading performance here, as you completely understand the severity of the situation and he remains completely believable throughout. The actor even got an Oscar nomination for his performance, and if you've seen the film, then you know why.
