10 Terrifying Japanese Horror Movies You've Probably Never Seen
8. Reincarnation
Much like Over Your Dead Body, Reincarnation covers the tale of a young female actor who experiences supernatural horror after landing a big movie role. However they both take completely different approaches to their presentation and storytelling, with Over Your Dead Body being a slow and visually-stunning movie, while Reincarnation instead focuses on intense imagery and physically violent scares.
The film follows Nagisa, the lucky actor brought onto a film depicting a grizzly historical murder from a local hotel. Before the beginning of the shoot, Nagisa becomes haunted by the ghosts of the victims, which plague her mind with hallucinations. This only grows worse as the shooting commences, and Nagisa's sanity quickly dwindles.
The film gets a little convoluted, as it begins to focus on concepts like reincarnation (hence the title), and characters from the past merging with the present, but this is part of the charm, as the confusing narrative altogether puts you into the mind of the protagonist, who is equally in the dark.
Reincarnation's eccentric plot is an excellent vessel for some terrifying scares and diving into the psyche of this troubled hero.
