10 Terrifying Japanese Horror Movies You've Probably Never Seen
7. Tetsuo: The Iron Man
You've likely heard of this infamous movie, but whether you've watched it is an entirely different question. Tetsuo: The Iron Man has a considerable reputation for being one of the strangest and most cerebral horror titles ever made, and if you are a true horror fanatic, then it's a must-see.
The narrative follows a businessman who accidentally runs a metal fetishist down with his car. In response, the villain punishes his attacker by slowly transforming him into a grotesque hybrid of rusty metal and flesh. The flick then follows this horrific body transformation and the chaos it creates.
There is a genuinely mechanical and industrial feeling to the film thanks to the lavish practical effects and uncomfortable sound design, both of which capture the terrifying feeling of someone who is slowly becoming less of a man and more of a metal monster.
Tetsuo garnered two sequels - Tetsuo II: The Body Hammer and Tetsuo: The Bullet Man - but they both pale in comparison to the visceral experience of the first title.
