10 Things Christopher Eccleston Has Done Since Leaving Doctor Who
8. The Borrowers
Christopher Eccleston has also appeared in other family-oriented programming since quitting Doctor Who, playing Pod Clock, the father of the miniature family, in the 2011 BBC TV Christmas film The Borrowers. Although the film had some big-name casting, with Stephen Fry and Victoria Wood also starring, the adaptation of the famous 1952 children's book by Mary Norton wasn't an unqualified success. Oddly enough, much of the original story's charm and appeal were traded in for action sequences and the addition of a new sub-plot concerning the teen romance between Arrietty and Spiller was also out of keeping with the original material. And, rather jarringly, the Clock family's clothes were deeply strange, too. Rather than being dressed in clothes made of things that were "borrowed" from the human house they were living in, the Borrowers were clearly wearing regular human togs. Perhaps these outfits were purchased from a teeny-tiny shop in the high street that carries just the right size?
