10 Things Didn't Know About Night Of The Living Dead

2. Various Colourisations

Night of the Living Dead
Anchor Bay Films

Hal Roach colourised Night of the Living Dead in 1986 and it become a popular VHS to own for over a decade after. In this first colourisation, the zombies had flat green skin. Although this might sound hilarious, it added a surreal, alien spookiness to an already creepy movie.

It got the colour treatment again in 1997 by Anchor Bay, and this time the ghouls had grey skin. A little more realistic perhaps, but this version was not as popular as the 1986 one. In 2004, Legends Films and 20th Century Fox released yet another colourised version. Five years later a 3D colour version was released theatrically. Making Night of the Living Dead the first live-action 2D movie to be completely converted to 3D, at least according to Legends Films.

Although no remake, re-edit or colourisation will capture the magic of the original Night, the Hal Roach release remains a sought-after title, as some feel it flows more comfortably into Dawn of the Dead than does the black and white version.
