10 Things Disney Could Do Now They Own Fox
2. And The X-Men
Unquestionably the most fan-baiting news to come out of the Disney/Fox deal, the prospect of Marvel Studios getting its hands on the X-Men could turn out to be a game-changer for the entire comic book genre.
Over at Fox, the mutant franchise has been going strong for over 18 years now, with the currently-delayed Dark Phoenix marking the twelfth installment in the series. While Logan and Deadpool restored some critical acclaim to the brand, there has been the sense that many of the recent movies have been coasting on autopilot.
If Kevin Feige gets his hands on the X-Men, the possibilities are endless. Not only could they operate as an entirely separate franchise outside of the mainline Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the mere mention of an X-Men vs. Avengers movie would sent the fan base into absolute meltdown. A few years ago the thought of Wolverine, Spider-Man and Captain America sharing the screen was pure wish fulfillment, now it seems as close to being a reality as it ever will be.
