10 Things Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special Can Learn from The Avengers

5. Limited Locations and Smaller Scope

In The Avengers, something I loved was how stripped back the structure was. I basically counted only two major locations- The Helicarrier and New York. Sure, you had SHIELD€™s base for the tesseract, and the mysterious planet, and the different locations for each Avenger, like Mannheim, The Forest, Calcutta, the corn field and the abandoned warehouse, but they didn€™t feature much. So whilst there was globetrotting, when the team came together, they had a lot of time together in a small location (well, OK New York isn€™t small per say, but you get my point). I suggest a location they all arrive at or initially come together, a location where the plot advances and we can spend time with the assembled Doctors, and the epic of battlefield. Chuck in some timezones they come from, some time on the Dalek/Cyberman flagship and the essential stuff in The TARDIS, and that€™s it. Sleek, simple and refined. Because whilst a longer running time for a big event is necessary, it shouldn€™t get bloated with jumping all over the place. Keep it limited to a few locations so a lot can happen in a few spaces and people can keep up- the opposite to recent finales, where a lot happens all over the place an one sometimes has trouble keeping up.
