4. The Running Time

Dont get me wrong, Doctor Who delivers great stories in 45 minutes. But this is one special that cant be wrapped up nicely in an hour. Theres so much to be done, we would all be left short-changed. If you can extend your series finale to an hour, then for something as big as this, you can damn sure spread it out a little. I think a two-parter with a cliffhanger is a bit much, and makes it less of a must-see event because you can catch up on Part One and the end is only a week away. No, tonights the night! Play it like a movie. Something like two hours, maybe a little over. That may be pushing it for TV, but people will happily watch a 90-minute drama, so a once-in-a-lifetime blockbuster is something people will gather around for. The running time also lets the characters breath. It wont be rushed and wrapped up, so no Doctor has limited screentime and we can see the full extent of the enemy threat. So much can happen, and beloved past Doctors can have their moment to shine again. And since this is a one-off, some extra time can be forgiven- something like this deserves a big of special treatment.
