9. Hire A Visionary Writer

Joss Whedon was brought in as a Director-Writer, and made The Avengers his own. He understood it from the inside out because he was making his script, with his words and ideas. I think this might be what the Multi-Doctor special needs. I understand the turnaround and production process is very different for film and TV- motion pictures can develop for years, TV shows have very little time! They need to write, shoot and edit to a pressing deadline. But by increasing the budget and extending the wait, they have a bit more room to breath. Now, many will say Steven Moffat is the man to write it, but I disagree. I think he is the man to co-write it. Doctor Who is his vision at the moment, but I think something as important as this to a man as busy as he is should not all be rested on his shoulders. He should contribute in a big way, creating the story, mapping out the plot, writing the dialogue, but someone else should contribute. Maybe Russell T. Davies, maybe Joss Whedon, I dont know, but someone else (just please not Chris Chibnall, please!) who can focus on this and only this, and give us a fresh approach. Because you may disagree, but I think Moffat stories since he became show-runner have been lacking. Compare The Empty Child, Blink or Forest of The Dead to The Beast Below, Lets Kill Hitler, The Wedding of River Song or *blurgh* The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe. Theyre not as scary or clever, because he is a busy man, and other great writers support his vision. Like Russell T. Davies, he can be hit-and-miss. I love both writers, and wow!, do they come up with some good stories (Every finale from Series 1-5, Tooth and Claw, Midnight, Turn Left, The Waters of Mars, The Eleventh Hour, Time of Angels, A Christmas Carol), but something like this would need their complete attention. So, bring in another party. Look at The Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer with Cloud Atlas- if that works, then so should a collaboration like this!
