It's the one moment teased as a part of the upcoming Man of Steel sequel from the very beginning. Sure, a lot of these other entries are important and will have their time in the sun - but none of them are quite so enticing as seeing the Dark Knight face off against the Big Blue Boy Scout. Snyder and Co. unveiled the team-up by reading a passage from Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns, which comic book fans immediately recognised as Batman's lines during his epic fight with Superman. The pair have fought in other comics, too, for a variety of reasons, but The Dark Knight Returns offers the best battle within the context of arguably the best graphic novel ever written (although there are a bunch that you should read). While the Man of Steel sequel (still known to most as Batman vs. Superman) won't be a direct adaptation of Miller's epic, it will almost certainly be a defining influence. The relationship between Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne is one of the most important relationships in the DC Universe, and so the film franchise would do well to focus on the ups and downs of that relationship. Great as it will be to see the pair united under the banner of the Justice League, there's nothing that says "box office gold" like lots and lots of super-powered punching.
