10 Things We Expect To Happen In The DC Cinematic Universe
9. Wonder Woman Finally Gets A Solo Film
A long-overdue solo outing for Wonder Woman is certainly in order in the near future of the DC Cinematic Universe. Gal Gadot, known to most from an increasingly large role in the Fast and Furious franchise, will appear as Diana Prince in 2016's Batman/Superman team-up, and Snyder and Co. would be hard-pressed not to show the character in full costume. A solo film obviously hinges on the reaction to Gadot's performance. If all goes well, DC and Warner Brothers would do well to fast-track the first Wonder Woman feature. Having a female lead able to carry a string of solo flicks is one of the few things lacking from the Marvel franchise at the moment - the closest they come (so far) is Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow, who at best could lead a Secret Avengers film with Captain America. Wonder Woman is the foremost superheroine in the history of comic books, and her role in the DCU is too important to ignore any longer. If Gadot's performance goes awry, for one reason or another, Warner Brothers will likely still fast-track the Wonder Woman franchise. This is the age of recasting roles so fast that studios almost seem to think no one will notice, and while the character deserves better than that, Wonder Woman also deserves a rightful place among the scores of costumed heroes coming to cinemas these days.
