10 Things Man Of Steel 2 Needs To Be Great

7. Adapt Something That's Not An Origin Or A Death

Superman is one of the oldest comic book creations of all time. He has had decades worth of stories told about him by hundreds upon hundreds of different writers and illustrators.

So why is it that all we can seem to get are films about either his origin or his death? Audiences may groan about having to see the Waynes get murdered again and again, but Kal-El's origin is arguably just as ubiquitous at this point. Between the first film in 1978, an entire nine-season-long series devoted to it on television, Man of Steel's opening twenty minutes, and ANOTHER television show about it now on the air, everyone knows how he got here.

And while the Death of Superman was a bona fide comic-event in the nineties, WB and DC have been attempting to cram a dying Superman storyline into every film ever since. Even the much-maligned Superman Returns got a 'dead Superman' story tacked on to it's ending.

Man of Steel 2 needs to adapt something else. There are so many great Superman stories yet to be told in film. With a history as densely populated with the work of great authors such as Alan Moore and Grant Morrison, there is no excuse to keep retreating to these same two stories.
