10 Things Movie Fans Find Too Distracting
4. 4DX
Ever watched an exciting new summer flick and thought to yourself, 'You know what? I'd really like to feel that car crash.'
No? Well, the chances are 4DX won't be your idea of a fun-filled trip to the cinema.
Though this immersive experience definitely has its upsides - being able to smell certain environments is oddly satisfying - it's largely a piece of kit designed to disrupt any hopes you had of a relaxing trip to your local theatre.
Being flung from pillar to post, having water squirted in your face and getting literally beaten up by your chair doesn't exactly throw people into the world they're watching. It actually does the opposite. By genuinely poking and prodding people throughout a feature, fans are reminded they're sat in a weird moving seat and frequently snapped out of a beautifully shot landscape by the sound of a wind or snow machine turning on and off.
If you're into crazy theme park rides and enjoy watching your popcorn travel to the other side of a room, then 4DX is definitely the way to go. But, if you want to thoroughly escape into another world for a few hours, probably best to stick to good old 2D or 3D instead.
