10 Things You Need To Know About Mad Max: Fury Road
4. The Main Villain Is 'Immortan Joe'
Immortan Joe is the antagonist of the film, a tyrannical warlord pursuing Theron's Furiosa across the desert in an attempt to reclaim what has taken from him. He wears a skeleton mask with protruding tubes over the lower half of his face, and has a very tribal look to him. Post-apocalyptic tribal, at least. Joe is portrayed by Hugh Keays-Byrne, who played Toecutter in the original Mad Max. Whether there will be any nod to his appearance in the earlier film is unknown. In Fury Road, Immortan Joe runs a compound capable of repairing vehicles - and modifying them, no doubt leading to some of the unique battle cars you'll see in the film. He has also convinced his followers that he has conquered death itself and returned from the grave, hence his name.
