10 Things You Need To Know About Terminator: Genisys
He said he'd be back...
There's nary a film franchise as iconic yet as beleaguered as the Terminator franchise over the past decade or so. After the initial two films became a huge part of popular culture, with everything from the music to star Arnold Schwarzenegger's famous "I'll be back" quote becoming ingrained in our collective consciousness, the franchise strayed from the course, veering into B-movie territory with Jonathan Mostow's Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines, struggling to portray the future war fans wanted in McG's Terminator: Salvation, and having just mild success with the cancelled-too-soon Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles on the small screen. In short, nothing has come close to the first two films and director James Cameron's vision. With Cameron busy working on two or three Avatar sequels when not skiing down mountains of money, and Arnold coming out of retirement, struggling at the box office, and needing a hit to make his comeback actually work, the Terminator franchise - the rights to which sold for just $29.5 million dollars at auction back in 2010 - became the obvious option for "next franchise for which a vague sequel/prequel/interquel shall be made." That's right, this isn't exactly a reboot, only it is a reboot. In all honesty J.J. Abrams and crew are probably owed a thanks (if you like the concept) for rebooting timelines and resetting stories, which is essentially what will be happening in Terminator: Genisys (Abrams' Bad Robot toyed with timelines on Lost, did it frequently on Fringe and finally brought it to the big screen with the recent Star Trek movies). What else is known about the movie? A fair bit for a film this high profile, but that may be thanks to initial set photos being less than promising, and the studio quickly releasing more info and material to quell fan's concerns. So lets take a look at ten things you need to know about Terminator: Genisys.
