7. The Movie Will Mark The End Of The First Class Story Arc
According to Simon Kinberg, producer, screenwriter and guy who generally knows a lot about the future of the X-Men franchise (that's kind of his job, to be fair), the upcoming sequel is set to mark the end of a lengthy story arc regarding the characters we've been associating with from X-Men: First Class. In his own words, then:
I will say that it is definitely the close of a trilogy for those First Class characters. Which isnt to say we wont see them in future movies, hopefully we will, but its a completion of an arc for them. I think that the friendship between Erik and Charles, which has always been so integral to the franchise, is something were continuing to explore and hopefully deepen with Apocalypse. And the relationship between Beast and Mystique is a really interesting one that we didnt have a lot of time to explore in Days of Future Past, so well have an opportunity to do more of that in Apocalypse.
News which sounds like it comes coupled with the promise of lots of drama and conflict, then and - in a somewhat relieving way - a bit of resolution. Which makes sense, given that the franchise is bustling with so many characters and plot lines at the moment that it's nearly threatening to explode under the weight of it all (and the weight of trying to work it all out). Clearing the slate somewhat and wrapping this up seems wise.
