10 Things That Could Save Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice

6. Reinvent Lex Luthor's Character To Suit Jesse Eisenberg

Casting Jesse Eisenberg in the role of Superman's iconic nemesis Lex Luthor was one of the announcements that caused the most outrage among comic book fans so far. How could this 'Michael Cera clone' act as a serious threat against the towering frame of Henry Cavill as Superman? Those worried about Eisenberg's acting ability should consider that the performer has far more range than he is often credited with. An Oscar nomination for his role in The Social Network may be his most prominent performance to date, but Eisenberg has also held his own against hugely popular actors such as Woody Harrelson and Emma Stone across a range of genres including thrillers and comedies. The worry here is whether the screenwriters will simply rehash past versions of Luthor as an egocentric billionaire, inevitably drawing comparisons between Eisenberg and Gene Hackman's iconic performance in the role. If the tone of Man of Steel is anything to go by though, audiences should hopefully be exposed to a new version of Luthor who is more grounded in reality. If Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice draws inspiration from the Birthright comic arc written by Mark Waid, Eisenberg will end up playing an insecure and somewhat unlikable, but ultimately intelligent business mogul who believes he is doing the right thing in his fight against Superman. That sounds remarkably similar to a character Eisenberg has already won plenty of accolades for playing...
