10 Things The Dark Tower Movie Should Have Done Differently
1. Introduce Eddie And Susannah
Sticking with the idea that the sequel-reboot format was the correct one, The Dark Tower should introduced fan-favourite characters Eddie and Susannah Dean.
Eddie is a heroin-addicted New Yorker who kicks his drug habit after learning the ways of the Gunslinger, and later defeats a self-aware train by telling it terrible dad jokes in one of the saga's more bizarre scenes.
His wife Susannah is a complex amalgamation of light and darkness, with good and evil personalities fighting for control within her - the result of being attacked by a serial killed named Jack Mort during her childhood.
Had the movie simply adapted The Gunslinger, it wouldn't have been at liberty to introduce these fascinating characters because they don't show up until book two, but since it was billed as a sequel that drew its inspiration from across the saga, this pair could have brought scope to the story.
Here's the problem now: given that Dark Tower has taken a critical battering, there's a good chance there won't be another movie, so fans may never get to see Eddie and Susannah brought to life on screen, at least until another studio dares take a punt on the so-called unfilmable saga.
Uniting Roland's Ka-tet could have helped the Tower put its best foot forward on celluloid, but the studio's decision to scale it back to its essence has left it standing on shaky foundations.
