1. His Opinions On Homelessness And The Police

On the back of talking about the values of Austin and what McConaughey wants to see from the city going forward, Rogan acknowledged that he's started to see an increased number of homeless people in tents on the streets of his new home. This reminded him of Los Angeles (his former home), which he classes as "out of control" in terms of people setting up makeshift homes in tent-form.

He then asked McConaughey how you put a stop to this sensitive situation without being an "ass-hole"? Rogan's talented guest admitted he didn't know the answer to this question, but offered up that it's more of a question of how to successfully rehabilitate people. What could be done to give those on the streets help mentally instead of just moving people without a home to another area such as a vacated hotel etc?

McConaughey also suggested that if jails "worked" and weren't just "holding cells" then people should be rehabilitated and able to seamlessly fit back into society. However, that isn't the case and former prisoners are often faced with more obstacles once they leave prison.

This train of thought also led to the actor confessing that he doesn't believe the idea of "perfect equality" is a "possible destination for anybody." He followed up by stating that it's great to keep striving for it, though, as this will inevitably lead to at least some positive change down the line.

The pair also spoke about the recent "Defund the Police" debate. McConaughey quickly suggested that this moniker didn't make it sound like the money was being reallocated to other areas and ways of handling policing. He also revealed that the "few bad apples" in the police force either needed to be trained better or let go of/vetted better before joining.

From this conversation, it seems clear that the actor sees more benefit in using money to better educate officers and sure up the recruitment process than just taking it away completely.
