10 Things We Learned From Matthew McConaughey On The Joe Rogan Experience
2. What Would He Still Like To Accomplish?
With an Academy Award on his shelf, millions in the bank and a string of well-known roles on his CV, there's not an awful lot that the Texan actor hasn't achieved during his near-thirty-year career on camera.
Yet, when asked what he'd still like to accomplish in the years to come, McConaughey had two very definite answers.
First he wants to make sure he does his best to shepherd his three young children through life "so they can go off to become independent and autonomous, and hopefully confident young individuals." However, on a more personal note, McConaughey would also like to become a thing known as a "Minister of Culture". This would see him promoting the core traditional values of Austin (where he lives) whilst also encouraging the area to continue growing in the way it has been in recent times.
With Rogan himself recently moving to the city, the host agreed that Austin couldn't become a place which people turned into the area they'd just left. So, the actor's plan is to remind people living in Austin why they love it there, while also initiating and educating newcomers as to what it means to call Austin home. If they don't want to abide by who they are, "make it a stop and not a stay."
Towards the latter stages of his appearance on the JRE, it becomes evident that McConaughey is passionate about the place where he attended University and grew up, and it seems likely that he will focus more of his time on maintaining Austin's values in this next stage of his life.
