The turn of the millennium saw a dramatic improvement in CGI. As a result, visual effects companies like ILM collaborated with visionary filmmakers to deliver jaw dropping action sequences.

X2: X-Men United showcased a memorable opening that saw Nightcrawler infiltrate the White House and dispense with hapless Secret Service agents in an effort to reach the American President. The character's signature teleporting powers were fantastically rendered and were a dramatic improvement over any of the previous film's action sequences.

Similarly, Spider-Man 2's train fight between Doc Ock and Spider-Man was a seamless blend of live action stunts and CGI that ultimately earned the film an academy award for best visual effects.

Such cinematic action sequences provided ideal Summer entertainment and even inspired many viewers to seek out the original comic books.
