10 Things We Need To See In HBO Harry Potter Series

6. Molly Weasley

Molly Weasley
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2

Molly Weasley is the matriarch of the Weasley clan, played to perfection by Julie Walters in the film series. She is a kind and loving woman who, when the situation arises, can quickly switch to resemble a sabre-toothed tiger. Rowling has said before that this warmhearted woman was always going to be the one to finally kill Bellatrix Lestrange.

The films fell a little short of giving Molly a rounded character arc. As they go on, she starts to show a little of the stress of the wizarding war on her face but her lines are cut into statements or echoes of the book. Rowling wrote her as a fully realised character and a stand-in for Harry's mother figure. This was only partly displayed on film.

She is Harry's only true parental figure consistently through the books, as both Sirius and Lupin are forced to leave his life for large periods at a time. Rather than having her appear in stand alone scenes, a further exploration of the effect that her constant worry is having on her would go much further to helping the audience truly root for the woman who kills Lestrange in the Deathly Hallows. Who was she before she met Arthur? What of their life together and their years with Bill and Charlie? The Weasley's story is ripe with potential and could easily serve as a gateway into the wizarding world at large.
