10 Things We Need To See In HBO Harry Potter Series

5. The First War

Order Of The Phoenix
Warner Bros.

The Philosopher's Stone opens with Harry being brought to his aunt and uncle's house. Though the reader won't discover it for some time, this is one of the last acts of the first wizarding war against Voldemort and his followers. With Voldemort's power broken, the clean up begins.

While the main film series shows the second rise of the dark arts and the Fantastic Beasts series looks set to show the rise of Grindlewald, there is a war in the middle that has largely been heard of but not seen. This is a crucial gap that needs to be filled.

Lily and James Potter are constantly spoken of but rarely shown as fully-fleshed out characters. Peter Pettigrew is a sniveling rodent of a man, but was once one of their closest friends. Severus Snape fell to the dark arts completely, before his loss drags him back to good. But the war itself has not been shown on-screen. Voldemort is a truly frightening character in the novels, particularly in his last days of humanity and early days of serpentine half-life. To truly understand the power and impact that he held over the wizarding community, a depiction of this war surely must be included in the new series. While there has been plenty of talk about the heroes of the past, it is time to see them in action.
