10 Things We Want To See In Simon Kinberg's Battlestar Galactica Film

3. A Strong Musical Score

One of the key successes of Ronald D. Moore and David Eick's re-imagined Battlestar Galactica series is the truly inspirational, and innovative, music score that was created by Bear McCreary. McCreary worked alongside Richard Gibbs on the miniseries, before being promoted to main composer for the series proper - creating an incredible series of scores across the four seasons.

This is a very tall order to follow. The main theme from Glen A. Larson's original is almost as iconic, featuring as the 'Colonial Theme' in the re-imagined series. The various themes and leitmotifs introduced by McCreary eventually moved from pure score to diegetic score, becoming part of the narrative.

Therefore, something more than a standard Hollywood score is required. Kinberg worked with Hans Zimmer on the score for Dark Phoenix, which is an excellent film score in its own right. However, there is very little in the way of thematic storytelling in the music - which in itself is not a criticism, merely an observation that it does not suit the world of the Cylons and the Twelve Colonies.

The score for Battlestar Galactica changed the tone of television scoring - this is something that needs to be honoured in any upcoming film.
