9. He Originally Betrayed Qui-Gon Jinn

Though it seems impossible to separate Jar Jar from his bumbling oaf persona that's been plaguing fans for almost 20 years, the original plans for the character were in fact very different.

Initially, Jar Jar was set to be a two-faced mercenary who would end up turning on Qui-Gon Jinn to serve his own ends (whatever they were).

There's no word on whether or not that would've resulted in Jar Jar's timely demise, but it sure would've saved fans a ton of anguish. Instead, the desire to draw in the kiddie crowd won out, and Jar Jar clung around for all three of the prequels.
