8. He Was Almost Killed Off In The Force Awakens

Before The Force Awakens hit cinemas, director J.J. Abrams stated that he toyed with the idea of doing fans a favour and decisively killing Jar Jar off.

He said, "I have a thought about putting Jar Jar Binks’s bones in the desert there...I’m serious! Only three people will notice, but they’ll love it."

Sadly this didn't come to pass, probably because George Lucas remains a creative consultant on the franchise and can still tell the writers the dos and don'ts of Star Wars lore.

Fans were so desperate for Jar Jar to die in the new movie that rumours even began to spread that he was on one of the five planets destroyed by the Starkiller Base. No proof of this, sadly.
