6. Michael Keaton Was Cast After They Started Filming

Michael Keaton, playing the title role of Beetlejuice, was not actually cast until filming had already started.

There are a few scenes in the movie that he is directly a part of, where the actors had no idea who would playing Beetlejuice. One of these scenes is when Beetlejuice turns into a giant snake and starts to terrorize the Deetz’s, and almost kills a few of them in the process.

All of the shots in the film cut between the actor’s reaction and the stop motion snake, partially due to being stop motion, and also because they didn’t know whose face would be on the end of the snake.
