10 Things You Didn't Know About Iconic Movie Character Costumes
2. Michael Myers Wore An Altered Captain Kirk Mask
For over four decades now, the lacerated, discoloured visage of Michael Myers has been a source of fear for viewers of John Carpenter's Halloween. There is something about the killer's pallid, covered face that has the power to strike terror in the hearts of even the bravest of filmgoers. Yet, the infamous mask worn by Nick Castle started out as something very different, and decidedly less scary.
Michael Myers' face was born when Halloween's editor stumbled across a Star Trek-inspired Captain Kirk mask and decided that it would be the perfect thing to base the bloodthirsty murderer's appearance on. He then customised it by enlarging the eye holes and spray-painting it white, transforming it into the face that we all know and fear.
So, next time you are watching Halloween, you can remain safe in the knowledge that at his core, Michael Myers is just a battered, paint-splattered William Shatner. Not quite so terrifying now, huh?
