10 Things You Didn't Know About Prometheus

7. The 'Deacon' Is Completely Unrelated To The Xenomorphs

In recent interviews with Ridley Scott concerning the existence of a Prometheus 2, the director stated that the Deacon - a name he gave the alien in Prometheus due to the shape of its head resembling that of a Bishop's hat - is not supposed to be related to the Xenomorphs at all. Obviously, the Deacon shares more than just a passing resemblance to the extremely aggressive extraterrestrials that we all know and love from the Alien films, but apparently, the entity we see slide out of the Engineer's chest really has no genetic relation to them. With that said though, we all know how many re-writes the script for Prometheus underwent during its development, so we wouldn't be surprised if, at one point or another, the Deacon was supposed to be an early progenitor to the Xenomorphs. Most audiences had that exact same line of thought upon seeing the film for the first time, but it seems the rumours that a Prometheus sequel would move even further away from the Alien mythos are based somewhat on fact. How a sequel is going to explain the huge coincidence in appearance between the two aliens remains to be seen: we just hope the script for a second film isn't almost ruined by constant tinkering like the first film was.
