Jeff Bridges protagonist The Dude is in every single scene of the movie: in keeping with The Big Lebowskis film noir inspirations, we only see what he sees. Even in the scene where the Nihilists are ordering pancakes alone, you can see The Dude and Walter outside in their van watching. In a rather rare blending of the filmic world and the real, most of the non-spoken audio that we hear is being heard by The Dude as well. The Man In Me song from his dream sequence is actually playing on his Walkman, and Hotel California is blaring from the bowling alleys PA system (even when the film cuts away to a flashback about The Jesus going door to door). Since The Dude plays such a huge role in this film, then, you might not have noticed that he never partakes in the main activity its based around he actually never bowls in the movie. Excluding the fantasy dream sequence, we never see him roll a ball. Weird, huh?
