10 Things You Didn't Know About The Descent
3. Neil Marshall's Wolf Skull
It's pretty common for film crews and actors to take souvenirs from their works, but this example from The Descent might just be one of the most underrated to have come from the world of horror.
Just after the hour mark in the film, lead girl Sarah stumbles across a huge mass of bones that the Crawlers have harvested from their prey over the years. For most audiences, this would just be a collection of extra props that wouldn't be worth a double take, however in amongst the pile is a cute little nod from director Neil Marshall to... himself?
Werewolves are a crucial part of Marshall's earlier horror work, Dog Soldiers. They essentially act as the film's primary antagonists, rampaging after the film's cast of main characters and attacking them at various points throughout the runtime.
What most audiences of The Descent probably didn't spot, or would have never thought to look out for, is that one of these baddies might have just found a way of sneaking into both these Marshall classics. There's a wolf skull to be found amongst the bones Sarah is rummaging across, placed strategically by Marshall as a little nod to his other works.
