10 Things You Didn't Know About The Millennium Falcon

1. It's A Tug

Cinematic history has made the Millennium Falcon one of the sexiest spaceships out there, a tuned-up galactic hot rod straddled by the most loveably rogueish smuggler from here to the Core Worlds. In the galaxy of Stars Wars, however, it's really not as impressive to your average shmuck on the street.

Princess Leia isn't in the least bit moved by the ship's appearance, uttering the innuendo-friendly line "You came in that thing? You're braver than I thought."

Even Rey, who has been living off quarter-portions in the guts of a wrecked AT-AT walker, describes the Falcon as 'garbage' as she runs for her life in The Force Awakens.

The reason is, the base model of the Falcon really is a piece of junk. The YT-1300 is a light freighter and space tug, of a kind made in their thousands for tedious drudge space work. The whole reason Han used it for smuggling is because, at first glance, it's the least flashy spaceship in the galaxy.

It's even used for shunting cargo containers around, as shown by an unused piece of concept art from the visual guide for The Force Awakens. It's the Star Wars equivalent of a heavily tricked-out forklift.
