Jamie Lee Curtis is the original Scream Queen for a motherf*cking reason and boy does she prove it in this film.

Her performance as Laurie Strode here is not only her best performance in any of the Halloween films, it is an all-time best performance from one of the most incredible actresses of the last few decades. Much like Donald Pleasance's Loomis before her, Jamie Lee Curtis' Laurie here elevates every second of screen time she gets to a whole other level.

Early moments like Laurie finding herself unable to shoot Michael on the transportation bus or her having an emotional breakdown at Allyson's dinner are packed with pathos thanks to Jamie Lee's gut-wrenching performance. In many ways, her performance here feels like a natural evolution of her work back in 1978, as she displays power and vulnerability simultaneously with the craft and precision of a master.

Seeing her play Laurie as a grizzled and battle-ready survivor would have been entertaining enough on its own, but the humanity Jamie Lee is able to bring to the role is astounding. And she's at her best when she's getting to interact with Allyson, a reflection of her past self, which is perfectly encapsulated in her "I used to be in the Honor Society too" line.
