5. Mera Is More Than Just A Love Interest
Amber Heard will debut as Mera, Aquaman's wife and the queen of Atlantis, in this November's Justice League movie, before reappearing with an expanded role in Aquaman. The costume team have designed her a seaweed-coloured armour costume, suggesting that she will be far more than a generic superhero love interest - she'll be getting involved in the action too.
This makes sense, given that Mera has superpowers of her own in the comics, including enhanced strength, controlling of water and fish telepathy. Essentially, she's got the same skill-set as Aquaman, which could create a fun on-screen rivalry between them.
Heard is a very strong performer, with a CV that blends riotous comedies (Zombieland) with awards season fare (The Danish Girl) and pure action (Drive Angry).
